How to Replace the Filter Sand in a Swimming Pool Sand Filter
Swimming pool sand filters are typically constructed using high-strength resin and fiberglass winding, offering high durability as well as resistance to aging and severe corrosion. They are particularly well-suited for water treatment applications such as swimming pool filtration, seawater processing, and chemical industry operations. The units are lightweight and utilize cost-effective standard quartz sand as the filter medium; however, if biochemical media are used instead, the filter can simultaneously function as a biological filter. Featuring an internal water distribution system, these filters allow for simple backwashing operations and are widely used in modern water treatment projects, including swimming pools, aquariums, and aquaculture facilities.

So, how do you replace the sand in a swimming pool sand filter?
1. Prepare the new quartz sand: The sand used in these filters is quartz sand, which consists of particles with a cubic-like shape and multiple sharp edges. Therefore, you should select filter media that offers high hardness and irregular particle shapes.
2. At the bottom of each quartz sand tank, there is a large assembly combining a drainage port and a sand discharge port; the inner opening serves as the sand discharge port, while the outer one is the drainage port. By opening the sand discharge port, you can use tools to continuously remove the old sand.
3. Open the sand-loading port at the top of the filter tank. For smaller tanks that use a top-mounted valve assembly, protect the central standpipe to prevent it from becoming clogged while pouring in the sand; larger tanks can be filled directly.
4. Fill the tank with quartz sand, typically to about four-fifths of the tank's total volume.
4. Once the sand is in place, reassemble the filter unit and carefully check for proper sealing.
5. After the sand replacement is complete and verified, perform backwashing and rinsing cycles to clean the sand; once these steps are finished, the filter is ready for normal operation.
