1. What is the difference between side-mounted and top-mounted sand filters? Side-mount valves are generally easier to reach for routine backwashing and reduce overall height. Top-mount designs can be more compact in footprint but may require more overhead clearance and can be less convenient for frequent operation.
2. How often should I backwash a fiberglass sand filter? Backwash when the pressure gauge rises 8–10 psi (or approximately 0.5–0.7 bar) above the clean starting pressure, or according to your pool's usage and local water conditions. Frequency varies with bather load, debris, and media condition.
3. What sand grain size is recommended for this filter? Clean graded quartz sand is standard. Common effective sizes fall in the 0.45–1.2 mm range depending on the desired filtration fineness and flow rate. Always follow the media supplier's and system designer's recommendations for bed depth and grading.
